I’ve been making some form of jewelry since the year 2000 after a friend hired me to construct props for an attraction at a Japanese theme park. When the assignment was complete, I discovered a myriad of beads; bits of wire and a pair of pliers deep in the cushions of my couch. Following the path that had consumed me for the past month, I designed a simple bracelet for myself using those errant components and an obsession was born.
I began to study classical goldsmithing at a local school, learning to solder; carve wax; and cast my own designs. Then I discovered metal clay and everything fell into place. As I immersed myself in all things metal clay I began to see how traditional methods would compliment my work and returned to fabrication. In 2004 I built my cozy home studio in beautiful Venice, California where I create the small, intimate treasures that hold me spellbound.
Having earned certifications from Rio Rewards; PMC Connections Levels 1 & 2 and Art Clay Silver, I began teaching in the Los Angeles area in 2003 and nationally in 2006. I’m honored to have been a regular contributor to Studio PMC; Step by Step Beads and Tana’s Habitat in addition to being asked to design a project which is featured in "Metal Clay and Mixed Media Jewelry" by Sherri Haab. In 2007 I was among the first artists whose work was chosen to be included in the premiere edition of the "PMC Guild Annual" . In addition to founding NewMetal Artists, the Los Angeles chapter of the PMC Guild, I belong to the Metal Arts Society of Southern California (MAASC) and The Society of Norh American Goldsmiths (SNAG). |
